Engagement Overview: 

Business Analysts work within an organization to improve how it conducts its functions and activities in order to reduce overall costs, increase efficient use of resources, and better support customers. They may also analyze opportunities, gather and define requirements, and implement recommendations to improve the business model.

Engagement Description: 

SOMOS regularly has opportunities for Business Analysts.

The successful candidate will work within an organization to improve how it conducts its functions and activities in order to reduce overall costs, provide more efficient use of scarce resources, and better support customers. The candidate will use the notion of process orientation, concentrating on and rethinking end-to-end activities that create value for customers, while removing unnecessary non-value added work.

Candidates should be able to show proven experience in areas such as:

  • Opportunity analysis
  • Requirements gathering and definition
  • Implementation of recommendations that lead to an improved business model
  • Making recommendations to management
Required Skills: 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Advanced abilities and knowledge of modification and redesign of existing business processes
  • Domain expertise is often required (e.g. change management, technology development, telecommunications, or e-commerce systems)
  • Requirements gathering and definition
  • Opportunity analysis
Experience: 

Four (4) or more years of progressive experience is typical.

Candidates will have experience in requirements gathering and definition, opportunity analysis and modeling, and identification of business processes. The candidate will also show experience in implementing recommendations that lead to an improved business model in areas such as cost, resourcing, organization, accountability of processes, measurement of processes or elimination of process redundancies.

Candidates in this position have typically worked several years as a practitioner in their field (computer science, engineering, finance, etc.) giving them a better understanding of specific challenges and techniques in that field. They have demonstrated their ability to succeed in spite of the challenges of market, people issues, technical hurdles, and chance.

Education: 
  • Education and experience will vary depending on the requirement, however, it is generally understood that education will lower the experience requirement.
  • For example a candidate holding a University degree will generally be required to show 5 years experience in their field.
  • A candidate holding a College degree will be required to show 8 years of experience.
