Microsoft Project and Portfolio Server Systems Specialist
These consultants will be involved in Microsoft Enterprise Project Management System Implementation. The requirements are for implementation of Microsoft Project Server and Microsoft Portfolio Server 2007 (two products) OR the implementation of Microsoft Project and Portfolio Server 2010.
The successful candidates will be hands-on technical experts who will install and configure the MS Project and Portfolio Servers on the customer’s equipment. They will be responsible for physical installation of the MS Project and Portfolio Servers software, possibly set up Sharepoint and SQL Server, set up the database connections, logins, passwords, permissions, etc.
These steps involve working very closely with the customer’s DBA or Systems Administrators. Note that in many environments, the customer does not allow the consultant to do the actual install in production. In these cases, the consultant will get the scripts, set up in a test or staging environment, test them, and then watch over the customer’s shoulder while he runs them.
This will also involve a lot of configuring and setting up of system parameters. Some customers have complex security requirements, which involve setting up different classes of users, reports, or data access.
Other functions that often are required are MS Reporting Services, which is highly dependent on database and systems configuration activity.
2 or more years of experience with Installation and Configuration of MS Project and Portfolio Servers.
Physical install of the MS Project and Portfolio Servers software.
Sharepoint and SQL Server experience.
Experience with the set-up of database connections, logins, passwords, permissions, etc.
Education and experience will vary depending on the requirement, however, it is generally understood that education will lower the experience requirement. For example a candidate holding a University degree will generally be required to show 5 years experience in their field. A candidate holding a College degree will be required to show 8 years of experience.
A person with certification for Microsoft Enterprise Project Management (EPM) or Microsoft Project Server or Microsoft Portfolio Server would be ideal.
Work in Ottawa requires a Secret level clearance, or above.
