e-Commerce Web System Development
IT Department - Government Department

Our client needed to push the limits of technology, scale, response time, and processing to build a custom n-tier database application system using WebSphere and Oracle. The team - while technically skilled - lacked the management depth to carry it off under the tight constraints of time, budget, and shifting user demands. SOMOS provided a team that included a senior project manager, an information architect, and several technical specialists over the course of the project. During the post-project review the team's performance was described by the auditors as as "nothing short of remarkable."

New Product Development
Telecommunications Manufacturer

In high technology product development, time to market is everything. For this engagement, our client could see the trees but needed help managing the forest. A senior project manager performed an initial assessment, recommended some startup actions (including some training and re-assignments), and led the team through development of an integrated plan. He then put in place a process for monitoring the activities (which, by the way, involved fifty resources across three countries, two continents, three languages, and nine time zones). SOMOS then provided a more junior project manager to manage the project through execution and (on time) delivery.

New System Development
Telecommunications Manufacturer

This manufacturer of telecommunications systems had been delivering large and complex projects for many years and had robust and proven processes in place. What they lacked was someone who could lead from the side of the matrix - to coordinate a large and diverse team that included developers from four product areas, product marketing staff, manufacturing, documentation, and logistics. SOMOS provided a senior project manager with the maturity to work effectively with a whole team of leaders.

PeopleSoft HRMS Implementation
Government Department

A SOMOS project manager led the implementation of the PeopleSoft Implementation Project at the department with a budget of $2 million and a project staff of 15. Our consultant provided the leadership and management expertise to plan and execute the fit analysis, product customization, programming and implementation of the PeopleSoft Human Resources Management System in less than half the originally budgeted time.

Inspection System
Government Department

A SOMOS project manager led the completion of the inspection automation system. This involved planning, monitoring and reporting on the activities of several consultants developing different components of the system. Meetings were held regularly with the client manager and the consultants to ensure adequate communication and successful performance.

Integrated Public Information System
Government Agency

A SOMOS project manager led the development and roll-out of an automated system to provide the public with agency information. Communication activities included interfacing with client, legal, legislative and operations authorities and coordinating the activities of several technical consultants. The SOMOS project manager developed an integration and test plan, which resulted in the on-time completion of the high-profile project.

Automated Personnel Support System
Government Department

A SOMOS consultant was the project manager responsible for the design and development of a custom-developed personnel support system. This interactive, on-line system was developed using CICS and DB2, with PACBASE as a CASE tool. A rigorous system development methodology, configuration management procedures and quality assurance standards were followed. Our consultant had full project and contract responsibility, as well as line responsibility for the project team of 20.
