The PMP®
The Project Management Professional (PMP®) accreditation has become synonymous with the most astute of project management practitioners. The PMP® methodology is highly regarded and increasingly SOMOS's clients request that project managers possess this designation.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification, a candidate must:
- Demonstrate a professional level of project management knowledge and experience by supporting projects using project management tools, techniques and methodologies; and
- Hold a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent), have completed 4,500 hours leading and directing specific tasks, and have 36-months of project management experience.
OR
- Hold a high school diploma (or equivalent), have completed 7,500 hours in a position of responsibility leading and directing specific tasks, and have 60-months of project management experience;
- Completed 35-hours of formal project manager training; and
- Passed the [4 hour exam] administered by the Project Management Institute (www.pmi.org).
To maintain their designation, Project Management Professionals (PMP®) must demonstrate ongoing commitment to their field by earning 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs), the equivalent of 60 hours, every three years. These units can be earned through activities such as volunteer work with local PMI chapters, and attending project management conferences, seminars, lectures, or courses.
SOMOS provides a number of courses, facilitated by PMP® accredited professionals, which can be used as PDUs toward the achievement and maintenance of the PMP® designation. Courses are offered at both the Introductory and Advanced Project Management levels.
