Required Skills:

Object oriented analysis and design of component based n-tier architectures including the use of UML
Requirements documentation and analysis
Development skills using web application servers such as Websphere Application Server, iPlanet/Sun, BEA Weblogic, Apache Tomcat or successor web application servers
Unit test frameworks for Java
Development experience using the Model-View-Controller design paradigm
Programming skills in Java, C++ or Smalltalk
Design of n-tier applications using Model Driven Architecture Concepts

Engagement Description:

The application architect would work to define the structure and relationship amongst applications, including the identification of re-usable components, the organization and layering software, and the determination of interfaces.

The responsibilities of the successful candidate would include developing, implementing and managing at least one cross-platform application architecture in a large and distributed environment.

Experience:

Five (5) or more years of progressive experience is typical.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate through work experience leadership in the development and implementation of application architecture at the specified experience level. They must have extensive experience with at least two different computing platforms, operating systems, environments, database technologies, programming languages and communication protocols.

Candidates must also demonstrate experience in the following areas:

Knowledge of performance considerations for different database designs in different environments
Experience in structured methodologies for the design, development and implementation of applications
Experience in systems analysis and design in large or medium system environments
Experience in the use of Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools for the development and documentation of data architectures and details data models

Education:

A university degree at the Bachelor level in Computer Science, Engineering (Systems, Software, Electrical) and a minimum of five (5) years experience.
