Course Overview: 

A two-day follow-up to the MoPTM Foundation course. This course examines the MoPTM methodology in greater depth and provides corporate portfolio managers with the tools to better coordinate and plan their investment in Programmes and Projects.

Course Description: 

MoPTM (Management of Portfolios) is the Portfolio Management standard available from OGC which enables you to:

·        Run the right projects and programmes, delivering a measurable contribution to strategic objectives

Portfolio, Programme & Project Offices (P3O®)

Course Overview: 

P3O® is the formalisation of guidance from the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) about how Support Offices can use Programme and Project Management to deliver business change.  The P3O model is process-based and demonstrates how effective support can help organisations deliver their strategy and ensure effective governance by bridging the gap between objectives and projects, programmes and portfolios.

Course Description: 

The SOMOS P3O® (Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices) training is in two parts: a three-day Foundation course for those new to the P3O® methodology and a two-day advanced Practitioner component for those who wish to become accredited practitioners.

The P3O® Foundation course is a three-day course for anyone who is seeking to implement or re-energise a Porfolio, Programme and/or Project Office model, or to provide consultancy in how to do this.  Participants will learn how to apply the P3O® concepts to an organization's change management environment.  This course is a prerequisite for the P3O® Practitioner course.

The P3O® Practitioner course is a two-day follow-on to the P3O® Foundation course.  It is for individuals wishing to gain formal qualifications and who are newly-appointed to leading Portfolio, Programme or Project office roles.  This qualification is designed for those responsible for setting up, managing or improving a P3O.  The course fully prepares participants for the official P3O® Practitioner exam on the final day of the course. 

Attendees must have successfully completed the three-day P3O® Foundation course in order to take the Practitioner course. Most participants take the two courses together.

Tools For Project Risk Management

Course Overview: 

This two-day course covers the basics of risk management and the application of the general concepts in a project environment. It also addresses different risk management methodologies, tools, and techniques, including their strengths and weaknesses. PLUS, all participants receive a copy of Deltek Risk+ for MicroSoft Project. 

Course Description:

This two-day course provides an in-depth examination of the management of risk in projects. Different risk management methodologies and techniques are presented, including both Qualitative and Quantitative processes. Attendees receive hands-on practice with WelcomHome™ (Qualitative Risk Management) and Risk+™ (Quantitative Risk Analysis), and will take home a licensed copy of Risk+ at the end of the course.

The course uses a combination of lectures, exercises, case studies, and hands-on practice with software tools.

Objectives: 

Achieving objectives in the presence of uncertainty is a requirement of most projects. In projects involving research, new technology, aggressive deadlines, or changing staff, the uncertainty is greater and the stakes are often higher.

After completing the Tools for Managing Project Risk course, participants will be familiar with basic risk management theory, concepts, and principles. They will learn some techniques for identifying and analyzing risk along with standard techniques for managing risk. Participants will learn about the PMBOK® framework for Risk Management and the SEI framework for Continuous Risk Management.

The course also prepares participants to write the Project Risk Management component of the Project Management Professional (PMP®) examination. Current PMP's earn 14 PDUs for attending.

Planning and Scheduling Using MS Project

Course Overview: 

A two-day course that takes attendees through the entire process of developing a work breakdown structure, building a schedule, adding and leveling resources, and producing a budget. The course alternates between theory and practical implementation throughout the two days.

Course Description: 

In response to many requests from our customers, SOMOS has created Planning and Scheduling Using MS Project. This course is ideal for new project managers who are looking for practical, hands-on training on building and maintaining MS Project schedules for their projects.

We took the planning and scheduling essentials from our flagship course Managing Projects Across the Organization and combined this with the hands-on scheduling tool training from our popular Introduction to MS Project course.

Attendees are taken through the entire process of developing a Work Breakdown Structure, building a Schedule, adding and leveling Resources, and producing a Budget. The course outline alternates between theory and practical implementation throughout the two days.

Objectives: 

On completion of this course, students will have a clear understanding of how to plan and develop a Microsoft schedule for a project.

Course Description: 

PRINCE2® (Projects in Controlled Environments) is a widely used international standard for Project Management that navigates you through all the essentials for running a successful project. It builds on the definitions and structure of PM knowledge and defines a series of processes, components, and techniques that can be applied managing any size or subject of project.

It provides project managers with a practical road map from conception to close for all types of projects and a framework to deliver projects that benefit stakeholders, the business, and the bottom line.

The PRINCE2® Practitioner course is a 2-day follow-on course to the PRINCE2® Foundation course. It examines the PRINCE2® methodology in greater depth and provides Project and Program Managers with the tools to effectively lead projects of all sizes and types. By the end of the course, participants will be fully prepared for the official PRINCE2® Foundation and Practitioner exams, which are held in the final stage of the course.
