RealNumber DNO

Protecting the Integrity of Phone Numbers

In the fight against fraud in telecom, RealNumber® Do Not Originate (DNO) is helping to bring back trust in telephony – one number at a time. RealNumber DNO's robust dataset has over 6 billion Toll-Free and 10-digit local numbers that have been identified as invalid, unallocated or those that should otherwise never originate calls. The solution has shown itself to be a powerful tool in protecting valuable number assets and the prevention of calls from spoofed numbers getting passed on to consumers.

The Impact of Telecommunications Fraud

Fraud has caused consumers to become increasingly reluctant to answer calls from unknown or suspicious numbers, posing challenges for legitimate businesses trying to reach their customers. This issue has significantly impacted carriers and service providers, resulting in financial losses, increased operational costs, and damage to customer confidence. Moreover, fraud can lead to an erosion of trust, ultimately causing a loss of customers and negatively affecting the economic reputation of businesses involved.

Common Types of Telecommunication Fraud

Number Spoofing

Falsifying the caller ID to appear as another phone number. Used to deceive the recipient into believing they are communicating with a reputable business, or a government institution.

Neighbor Spoofing

Scammers mimic local numbers, often duplicating the first six digits of your own number to increase the likelihood that you answer the call.

Text Message Spoofing

Text messages are sent from a number that appears to belong to a legitimate source, often prompting urgent action from the unsuspecting recipient.

PBX Hacking

PBX hacking allows fraudsters to take control of phone lines by exploiting unsecured phone systems.

Robocall Spoofing

Automated calls programmed to deliver pre-recorded messages with the caller ID disguised as local businesses or trusted organizations.

SMS Phishing

SMS phishing is the practice of sending mass SMS to obtain personal information from the person who receives the messages.
