Meet NENA: Working Together to Improve Emergency Communications to Save Lives

Did you know that an estimated 240 million calls are made to 

9-1-1 in the U.S. each year? 

That’s the equivalent of over 600,000 calls per DAY!

The numbers don’t lie: it’s critical – even potentially lifesaving! – that 9-1-1 emergency service delivery is effective, accessible and technologically mature. 

With more than 15,000 members and 48 chapters nationwide, the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) is committed to ensuring that this mission is met. From developing educational resources to establishing standards development to providing outreach and advocacy, NENA has long been an ally for the 9-1-1 industry. Having been intertwined with 9-1-1 throughout the growth and development of its systems, NENA is uniquely positioned to not only take the platform to new heights, but also to help it face head-on – and surmount! – new challenges.

Somos is excited to announce that we recently joined NENA’s member-base of leading 9-1-1 experts, with Kevin Green, a seasoned telecommunications professional and Sr. Director, Public Policy & External Relations at Somos, acting as Somos’ main point of contact. 9-1-1 is a vital asset for the North American public and having the opportunity to help promote community safety – especially when it comes to our trusted numbering resources – is a high priority at Somos.

As 9-1-1 continues to evolve and progress to a Next Generation 911 (NG911) platform, which will include text, video, and robust data capabilities, Somos, as a leader in trusted global communications, is thrilled to be a part of the conversation and in a position to contribute our institutional knowledge, information and strategies to help the Public Safety community thrive and expand.
