Webinar Recap: Building End-to-End Trust: Diving into a Next-Generation Framework

In the second installment of Somos’ Trust Framework webinar series, Chris Wendt, VP of Systems Engineering, joined Senior Product Manager Susan Tamida to explore what it takes to build a truly trusted telecom ecosystem, one that goes beyond basic call authentication.

While STIR/SHAKEN laid the foundation for verifying caller identity, it’s only part of the solution. As Chris explained, what’s needed now is positive, verifiable proof – credentials that confirm not just the number, but who’s using it and their right to do so. That’s the vision behind the Trust Framework.

Built to extend the work of STIR/SHAKEN, the Trust Framework brings consistency to how identity is vetted, Right-to-Use (RTU) is established and trust is cryptographically proven across calls and channels. It introduces a more transparent model, one where trust can be independently verified, monitored and enforced.

Chris also introduced VESPER (Verifiable STI Persona), a new framework under development in IETF that operationalizes these goals. VESPER ties vetted identities and RTU claims to delegate certificates, all logged in public transparency systems to prevent misuse or impersonation.

The takeaway? Restoring trust is a shared responsibility. Carriers, platforms and enterprises all play a role: from validating credentials to monitoring the ecosystem. When trust is built on common standards and public accountability, it becomes scalable and sustainable.
