[WEBINAR RECAP] CISO Liability in 2025: Navigating IoT Risk, Regulation and Accountability

Somos recently hosted a webinar, CISO Liability in 2025: Navigating IoT Risk, Regulation and Accountability, which explored how evolving regulations and the rapid growth of IoT and OT ecosystems are changing what is expected of today’s CISOs.

The session, lead by Somos’ Marc Plante featured insights from Daniele Levy, Somos’ Chief Legal & Trust Officer, Sri Ramanchandran, Somos’ Chief Technology Officer and Jeremiah Sahlberg, Principal at Tevora, centered on the increasing pressure driven by new requirements such as the SEC’s cybersecurity disclosure rule (SEC Release No. 33-11216), which mandates timely and accurate incident reporting along with clear documentation of cyber governance. These expectations place CISOs under greater scrutiny, making verifiable data essential for defensible disclosures.

Experts also highlighted the role IoT and OT devices play in rising breach activity. Fragmented inventories, inconsistent SBOM visibility and limited insight into device vulnerabilities make it difficult for security leaders to understand risk and validate the information they report to boards, regulators and auditors. As a result, organizations are shifting toward stronger governance models, more proactive risk management and greater investment in tools that improve device-level transparency.

A key part of the conversation focused on how SomosID® for IoT helps CISOs gain the clarity needed to meet these expectations. By correlating device inventories, SBOMs, vulnerabilities and certifications into a single trusted dataset, SomosID enables faster incident scoping, more accurate reporting and reduced liability exposure.
