SMS/800 TFN Registry Modernization Roadmap

At Somos, our highest priority is the businesses of our customers, which means we work to ensure that our products are always running at optimal service levels. Modernizing access to the SMS/800 Toll-Free Number (TFN) Registry is part of our effort to improve the system’s capabilities and enhance your user experience.

Our priority is to ensure business continuity to all Responsible Organizations (Resp Orgs) during this migration period. Access to the SMS/800 TFN Registry will remain available to all our customers through the SMS/800 TFN Registry UI, Application Programming Interface (API), as well as other interfaces such as Mechanized Generic Interface (MGI), and Web Based Access (WBA).

Our schedule for the SMS/800 TFN Registry releases is as follows:

SMS/800 TFN Registry Modernization Roadmap Sept 2018

First-Half of 2019

All Resp Orgs will have access to an updated set of APIs (API Version 2) for the SMS/800 TFN Registry that will have enhancements to the current API Version 1. Users will have the opportunity to test API Version 2 during a pre-production beta period in the Developers Portal before it is launched into full production in Mid-Year 2019. To view a document that compares the details of API Version 1 and API Version 2, please visit the SMS/800 TFN Registry Developer Resources Portal.

Mid-Year 2019

Full migration of the SMS/800 TFN Registry will take place Mid-Year 2019. This includes:

  • Decommissioning of API Version 1
At this time, API Version 2 will be in full production and API Version 1 will no longer be supported.
  • Migration of Backend Systems
This migration of systems will require a new system architecture. The current architecture relies on sequential processing, while the new architecture will allow for concurrent processing of transactions. As part of this system migration, the new SMS/800 Registry will replace the current CPU utilization policy with a new throttling policy to ensure all requests are accepted up to the allowed limit.
  • New Reporting System
Resp Orgs will also have access to a new and improved reporting system through the SMS/800 TFN Registry. This new system, powered by Tableau, will replace the current Business Objects in Web-Based Reporting System (WRS).
Additional Updates

A few additional updates regarding the SMS/800 TFN Registry:

  • The 3270 Interface will be decommissioned on Oct. 31, 2018.  If you haven’t yet started looking at alternatives, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible.
  • As we have shared in the past, the MGI, and WBA will continue to be supported for the foreseeable future, but will not be updated to support new feature releases.
