A Collective Call to Action on Fraud with The Knoble, Fraud Fight Club, Risk Insight Solutions, Federal Reserve Financial Services and Stop Scams Alliance
The 2025 Somos Summit brought together global thought leaders, industry experts and innovators to explore the intersection of Trust, Technology & Transformation. Held just outside Washington, D.C., this year’s event featured insightful sessions and meaningful conversations focused on advancing the telecom ecosystem and shaping the future of trusted communications.
Jaime Zetterstrom, VP of Product Management at Somos, opened the session Bridging the Trust Gap: The Real Power Behind Strong Fraud Defensesby highlighting the human side of fraud prevention. “At Somos, we’re deeply committed to the fight against scams and fraud,” she said. “The message we want to underscore is simple. You are not alone. We are not alone. Together, through collaboration and shared vision, we can make lasting transformation.”
Jaime was joined by panelists Ian Mitchell, Founder of The Knoble & Mission Omega, PJ Rohall, Co-Founder of About Fraud & Fraud Fight Club, Donna Turner, Founder of Risk Insight Solutions, Mike Timoney, VP, Payments System Improvements at Federal Reserve Financial Services and Ken Westbrook, Founder & CEO of Stop Scams Alliance. The panel reflected a diverse mix of financial, regulatory and anti-fraud experts, all unified by one goal: protecting people through partnership.
PJ Rohall described his work building communities for fraud fighters. “We built a global network that shares resources and relationships,” he said. “What we’re most excited about is Fraud Fight Club – but the real story is the trusted relationships that power it.”
Addressing trust from a regulatory perspective, Mike Timoney said, “The Fed processes over five trillion dollars a day. We need to make sure it’s trustworthy for all of us because the economy depends on it.” Donna Turner added that collaboration between public and private sectors is critical, saying, “People want to help. We sometimes miss that we have a responsibility to shine a light and make those connections.”
Ken Westbrook shared his personal motivation for founding Stop Scams Alliance. “My mother was the victim of a romance scam,” he said. “I discovered that transnational organized crime was behind it, and I decided I was going to fight.” His group works to “disrupt scams before they happen” through coordination between industry, law and policy.
Looking ahead, Ken called for scams to be declared a national priority. “We need a White House lead for fraud strategy,” he said. “Let’s build the cross-industry coalition needed to authenticate our messaging systems in this country.” Ian Mitchell agreed. “We have to understand that scams also include labor trafficking, child exploitation and financial abuse. The solution to this massive problem is sitting in this room.”
The panel ended with a rallying cry. “Everyone in this room can be a catalyst for change,” Donna said. Mike added, “Do something. Leave here and take action in this fight.” Closing with a reminder of purpose, Ian said: “There are people who need us. Communities and families who need protection. If we all lead with heart, we can make a real difference.”
