Ensuring That “Everybody Wins” – Giving Back While Preventing Childhood Illiteracy

While the child literacy crisis didn’t start with the pandemic, the coronavirus pandemic undoubtedly escalated the reading emergency in America. Having spent months without the structure and support of conventional, pre-pandemic education, many children across the nation, regardless of demographic, race, socio-economic class, etc., have been negatively impacted by the unforeseen, immediate and – for better or for worse - mandatory transition to an exclusively online learning model.

With so many students struggling to recoup the time they missed and/or lost, it’s clear that the youth of tomorrow need an added layer of support when it comes to developing the essential literacy and social skills necessary to succeed in the classroom, community and beyond. Everybody Wins DC (EWDC) is a non-profit organization that, since 1995, has been helping children and families across the Mid-Atlantic region cultivate the critical skills needed to encourage academic and social growth.

This May, Somos has the extreme pleasure of serving as a Reading Champion sponsor at EWDC CELEBRATE! – a festive event that benefits EWDC’s reading programs.
