SMS/800 TFN Registry APIs and UI Release Schedule

At Somos, we work to continuously develop our services for the industry — and we are excited for the initial release of the SMS/800 Toll-Free Number (TFN) Registry. Modernization of the SMS/800 Platform is part of our efforts to improve system capabilities and enhance the user experience. Beta testing for the initial release is underway and we are receiving encouraging feedback.

The modern SMS/800 TFN Registry is device and browser agnostic. Users with permissions into the current SMS/800 Platform (e.g. the Web Based Access (WBA), the 3270 application or the Enhanced SMS/800) will be able to access it from various types of devices including PCs, Notebooks, Tablets, and Smartphones. Additionally, the SMS/800 TFN Registry is certified to work on multiple browsers, including Internet Explorer (IE), Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Google Chrome. It will also be available on the Internet without the need for a secure connection (e.g. a Site-to-Site VPN, Dedicated Circuit (T1), or a Client Based VPN) with Somos and the TFN data will remain secure within the SMS/800 TFN Registry.

Our schedule for the SMS/800 TFN Registry releases is as follows:

Summer 2017 — New API and UI Set 1 – July 10, 2017

All Responsible Organizations (Resp Orgs) will gain access to the initial set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to the SMS/800 TFN Registry, and a new Web Based User Interface (UI).

This release will contain our customers’ most frequently used features: Number Search & Reserve (the NUS screen), Number Query and Update (the MNQ screen), and Password Change (the PWC screen).

We have scheduled a webinar for July 12 at 1 PM (CT) for Resp Orgs interested in learning more about this release. Registration coming soon!

Fall 2017 — Release of API Sets 2 & 3

The second release of APIs is scheduled for late August and will provide Customer Record Administration (the CAD screen) and Pointer Record Administration (the PAD screen) features.

The third release of APIs is scheduled for October and will include Service Control Point (SCP) Administration, a bulk TFN request process for Number Search & Reserve, and the One Click Activate (Search, Reserve, & Active in a single request) features. Note: Today, the bulk TFN request process and the One Click Activate feature exist in the Enhanced SMS/800 (enhanced-sms800.somos.com) and can be accessed with your SMS/800 Platform (e.g. the WBA or the 3270 application) user credentials.

All existing applications and their features will continue to be available during these release timeframes.

Spring 2018 — Migration

Somos will begin migrating from the current SMS/800 Platform (e.g. WBA, 3270 application and Enhanced SMS/800) to the new SMS/800 TFN Registry. The 3270 application will no longer be supported and will be discontinued in the Spring of 2018.

At this time, the APIs and the UI will be available and provide all the features of the current 3270 application. The other TFN provisioning applications (Mechanized Generic Interface (MGI), and WBA) will continue to be supported.

Beginning this Summer, Somos encourages Resp Orgs to transition to the APIs and the UI of the SMS/800 TFN Registry to obtain the benefits of advanced and adaptable features that meet your business needs.
